Akshay Kulkarni – October 4, 2024

Suzuki has always been synonymous with superbikes, consistently delivering iconic motorcycles over the years. Their latest addition to the Indian market is the Suzuki GSX-8R, which is being touted as the “New Standard of Sport.” Let’s dive into the details of this exciting launch.

New Suzuki GSX-8R Launch

As the festive season approaches, Suzuki Motorcycle India has introduced the fully-faired GSX-8R, priced at Rs 9.25 lakh (Ex-showroom). This sportbike is available in three color options: Metallic Matte Sword Silver, Metallic Triton Blue, and Metallic Matte Black No. 2.

Design and Features

The GSX-8R boasts a sleek, aerodynamic design, ensuring both style and functionality. Suzuki’s focus on wind-tunnel-tested fairings, cowlings, and windscreens is evident in its streamlined look. The sportbike comes with a compact exhaust muffler for a sleeker profile. Modern lighting features, such as hexagonal LED headlights, LED DRLs, LED taillights, and LED winkers, enhance its aesthetics.

Additionally, the bike is equipped with a 5-inch TFT LCD instrument screen, providing easy access to essential information while riding. Notable rivals in its category include the Triumph Daytona 660 and the upcoming Yamaha R7, which is anticipated to enter the Indian market soon.

Build and Frame

Suzuki has employed a steel pipe frame for the main structure, with the use of aluminium in select areas to reduce weight. The bike’s design also features a sculpted 14-liter fuel tank, cowl-mounted ORVMs, and a comfortable, ergonomic seat. Riders will appreciate the raised pillion seat and the iconic fonts used on the fairing.

Engine and Performance

At the heart of the GSX-8R is a 776cc parallel-twin engine featuring a DOHC 4V head and a 270-degree crankshaft. With advanced technologies like a cross balancer system, a 2-in-1 exhaust system, and a 2-stage catalytic converter, this engine delivers 81.8 bhp at 8,500 RPM and 78 Nm of peak torque at 6,800 RPM. The bike is paired with Suzuki’s clutch assist, a bi-directional quick-shifter, and a 6-speed gearbox for smooth shifting and enhanced performance.

Suspension, Brakes, and Wheels

The GSX-8R features Showa SFF-BP USD telescopic front forks and a Showa link-type rear mono-shock suspension for a balanced and comfortable ride. Braking is handled by dual 310 mm discs at the front and a single 240 mm disc at the rear, while Dunlop Roadsport 2 tyres wrap the 17-inch aluminium wheels. The bike has a kerb weight of 205 kg.

Advanced Riding Tech

Suzuki’s Intelligent Control System (S.I.R.S) is one of the bike’s standout features, making riding smoother and more enjoyable for all riders. This system includes the Suzuki Drive Mode Selector (SDMS) and the Suzuki Traction Control System (STCS), allowing riders to customize their experience based on different road conditions and preferences.

Statement from Suzuki Motorcycle India

Mr. Kenichi Umeda, Managing Director of Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt. Ltd., remarked, “GSX-8R allows riders of all ages to ride with confidence – whether it’s for daily commuting or weekend long touring. Its advanced Suzuki Intelligent Control System (S.I.R.S) makes riding smoother, easier, and enjoyable for everyone. We believe that GSX-8R will connect with our customers and provide them with a truly satisfying riding experience.”

Mr. Devashish Handa, Executive Vice President – Sales, Marketing, and After Sales, Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt. Ltd., added, “The GSX-8R delivers a new standard of sport; one that is ideal for enthusiasts seeking real-world performance, technology, and rideability.”
